After five years in the works, plans seem to be falling together… But new construction is hardly the only building driving Northlight’s Evanston-based endeavors. The theater’s teaching artists and educators have spent years building connections with Evanston, tending the theater’s local roots even as its brick-and-mortar presence remained out of town.

City Council allocates $2 million in ARPA funds

City Council voted Monday to allocate $2 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds to Northlight Theatre. The money will support the construction of a new performing arts center in downtown Evanston… With Monday’s allocation, the company is now looking to fundraise an additional $24 million to relocate to a new facility at 1012-18 Church St. in Evanston, as its current lease in Skokie will expire in 2024.

'Breakthrough Moment': Northlight Purchases Evanston Theater Site

Northlight Theatre has completed the purchase of the site of its planned downtown Evanston theater center. Theater officials hope to complete the project and relocate from the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie by the fall of 2024.
